What is the process for downloading the ByteSize Reader?
The Download-Install Guide will
walk you through the download and installation process for the
ByteSize
Reader and ByteSize documents. This Guide is in PDF format to help
you get started. Once the ByteSize Reader is installed, download
and open any other HELP Guide for

How do I get started using the ByteSize Reader?
For a quick lesson in how to get started using the ByteSize
Reader, download the Reading Guide.
This Guide is in ByteSize Systems' BRT format and does not require
a ByteSize Reader license to open. The Reading Guide will explain the parts
of the ByteSize Reader, how to advance through a document,
navigation
tips, and
available
tools.
For additional information, check out the other HELP
Guides.

How long does it take to learn how to use the ByteSize Reader?
Our testing shows that you can gain "elementary" proficiency within
seven minutes. In that length of time you can learn to read and
navigate a document.
It takes about forty-five minutes to gain "expert" proficiency,
whereby you can search; add, filter and categorize annotations;
and copy-and-paste with
or without a source citation. In roughly three hours, you can "master" the
many powerful features of the ByteSize Reader, customizing its
display and
functions. Download any of the HELP
Guides for more information.

What is the ByteSize format?
The ByteSize format makes on-screen reading and
studying easy and comfortable. Working in a ByteSized
document, you have the ability to perform powerful
search functions, add your own annotations and
bookmarks, filter your annotations for fast
referencing, read text without having to scroll
up and down or sideways on a page, extract text
with its source citation for inclusion in reports
and reference documents, and keep project files
separate when collaborating with team members
or fellow students. The content of documents
in ByteSize format is secure and cannot be
changed. However, the way you view the content
can be customized.

What is the ByteSize READER?
The ByteSize READER is the tool through which
you view a document in ByteSize format. The ByteSize READER
consists of three on-screen windows: PageView,
Quester and ReaderLens. All three window-displays give you unique access
to your document when viewed simultaneously.

What documents are available in ByteSize format?
Documents currently available in ByteSize format can be found in our B-book
Library.
ByteSize Systems continues to develop relationships with publishers,
authors, government
agencies
and
clearinghouses to make textbooks and reference material
available. If you have specific content you would
like in ByteSize format, contact us at info@bytesizesystems.com with
your request. Be sure to include complete contact
information (name, company, address, phone number,
email address, etc.) so we can find you to learn more about the content you want.

What types of documents can be viewed
in the ByteSize Reader?
Documents in ByteSize format are called "ByteSized" documents.
ByteSized documents, as well as any PDF document,
can be viewed in the ByteSize Reader. But only
the ByteSize Reader can open a document in ByteSize
format. When viewing a ByteSized document in
the ByteSize Reader, all features (Quester, the ability
to highlight, create notes and bookmarks, search,
skim, copy-and-paste with source citation, etc.) are
fully functional. To learn more about the types of ByteSize documents
we offer, visit Licensing Options.

What's the difference between Adobe® Acrobat® products
and the ByteSize Reader?
The ByteSize Reader scales the "words" rather
than the "page" to make on-screen reading easier
and more comfortable. We "reflow" the words so
they fit on the screen rather than flow off the
edge. You do not have to scroll to read a ByteSized
document. The ByteSize Reader will open both
ByteSized documents and documents created by
Adobe Acrobat. However, Acrobat and the Acrobat Reader
will not open documents that are in ByteSize
format. The ByteSize Reader allows you to create
extensive annotations (highlights, notes, bookmarks),
categorize those annotations, and filter them
for easy referencing.

What can I do with documents in ByteSize
format?
You can navigate, search, copy-and-paste (with
and without source citations), annotate, categorize and
summarize your annotations, collaborate, skim
the content, and print using the ByteSize Reader.
See features for more detail.

Can I buy a server version or a site license for products in ByteSize format?
No. ByteSize products and documents must be installed on each computer on which they are to be used.

Why is there occasionally no text displayed in the ReaderLens?
Many paper books have blank pages, usually in the front-matter
or prior to the start of chapters, that are intended to help
with pagination. ByteSize Systems makes every attempt to retain
the integrity of the books we publish and therefore do not omit
these blank pages in our b-books. Because there is nothing
to extract from these pages, there is no text to display in the
ReaderLens.

Where is the HELP manual?
You will find individual HELP Guides
on the ByteSize Reader's menu bar. Click HELP on the menu bar and a list
of HELP Guide titles will appear in the drop-down
menu. These HELP Guides are fully interactive. Because the ByteSize
Reader was created to make searching, navigating and
annotating a document easy, we encourage you
to use the ByteSize SEARCH and NAVIGATION features,
which you will find on the menu bar, to help you
locate specific content in the HELP Guides.
Practice increasing or decreasing the font size
of your text, highlighting, creating notes, or
filtering your annotations right inside the HELP Guides.
You can do anything inside the HELP Guides that is explained as being possible using the ByteSize Reader. Among other features, the Guides are
portable.

I tried to open a licensed document (.brp, .brr) but it failed.
What happened?
Launch the ByteSize Reader and a licensed document again. Be sure
you are connected to the Internet as the ByteSize Reader must reach
out to the ByteSize server to verify your license. If prompted,
re-enter your username/password. If you continue to have trouble
activating a license, contact support@bytesizesystems.com for
assistance. After your license has been verified, you do not need
an Internet connection to use the document.
